The Top 3 portable monitors for Digital Nomads

For the best remote work experience

During my travels as an indiehacker, I figured that working only a laptop screen can be a challenge. In order to solve that problem, I researched some options for portable monitors, which can be easily taken in a suitcase and then setup on a desk or table.

In that search, I compiled this list of monitors that were on my list to be considered. I noticed that in my search, not all monitor models are easy to order online, so I am only mentioning models here that can be ordered in Europe and/or the US. I used affialiate links in this post, so that I get a small commision in case you would buy any of these monitors.

In this top 5 I will compare monitors based on the following criteria:

  • Price

  • Size of the display

  • Brightness

  • Resolution

  • Connectivity options

  • Setup ergonomics

This post is accurate as of November 2024 and I will update it every couple or months or so.

#1: HP E14 G4 Portable Monitor

  • Price: $294 or €317

  • Size: 14”

  • Brightness: 400 nits

  • Resolution: 1080p

  • Connectivity options: USB-C

  • Setup ergonomics: Has a built-in stand

This monitor has been chosen to be number 1, because of the combination of the resolution, the size, the brightness and the fact that it can be setup easily.

Bonus pick (US only): FlipGo Portable Dual Monitor

Only available in the US, but definitely one of the coolest options, where you will have more screen real estate to work with. If this one could be delivered in Europe, it would have made the number 1.

The FlipGo is available in 3 different sizes, 13.5, 15.6 and 16 inches. It supports reverse charging (e.g. charging your laptop with the monitor) and also has the option for a touch-screen version of the model. The coolest aspect of the monitor, is that it offers 2 screens, in essence.

  • Price: $399

  • Size: 13,5”

  • Brightness: 400 nits (or 500 nits for the more expensive versions)

  • Resolution: 2256*1504 pixels

  • Connectivity options: USB-C

  • Setup ergonomics: Has a built-in stand.
